This was the band's sixth studio album. It was released on 14, September 2007 in Germany, Finland, Sweden and Ireland & on September 17, 2007 Internationally. It was released in US stores on Sept. 18, 2007.
According to Ville Valo, it's their heaviest album yet.
'Venus Doom' has the longest and shortest running HIM tracks so far. "Sleepwalking Past Hope" runs a total of 10:03. "Song or Suicide" is only 1:10.
According to Valo, the album has nine tracks to represent the nine circles of hell from Dante's 'The Divine Comedy'. The acoustic version of "Bleed Well" references this, featuring a verse that was dropped from the final recording. The verse contained the line 'we'll descend to the ninth and last, where we're judged' referencing the next track, the ninth track "Cyanide Sun."

The song "Passion's Killing Floor" is on the 'Transformers' movie soundtrack, which was released on July 3, 2007.
This album is also available as a Limited Edition as well as a Special Edition. The Limited Edition consisted of a second disc with two bonus tracks.
The Special Edition was available for purchase from the Heartagram.com site. The Special Edition was packaged in a leather-look 'book' with 3 random 'polaroid' pictures & a second disc with 3 bonus tracks.
On September 26, the album broke the record for a Finnish act, debuting at #12 in the US, with 38 000 copies sold.
